**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved two significant defence projects valued at approximately ₹20,000 crore, marking a major victory for India’s “Make in India” initiative. The projects involve the production of 12 Su-30MKI fighter jets for the Indian Air Force and 100 K-9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers for the Indian Army.
The contract for the Su-30MKI jets, valued at around ₹13,000 crore, has already been signed, sources confirmed. These aircraft, to be license-manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Nashik, will replace losses incurred over several years.
Separately, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will produce 100 additional K-9 Vajra howitzers at its Hazira facility in Gujarat. This represents a repeat order, building on the 100 already integrated into the Army. L&T has emphasized an increased indigenous content in this latest production run. These howitzers are currently deployed in both desert regions and along the border with China in Ladakh.
Both projects are anticipated to significantly benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs) involved in the supply chains of HAL and L&T. The CCS’s approval underscores the Indian government’s commitment to strengthening domestic defence production and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.
