**Hubballi, Karnataka, December 11, 2024** – KLE Technological University (KLETU) in Hubballi played host to the local launch of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 Hardware Edition on Wednesday. The event, attended by over 50 mentors and 30 teams, marks the first time KLETU has hosted the hardware edition of the competition, having previously hosted three software editions.
Sourabh R. Nirmale, Regional Consultant from the Central Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, served as chief guest. He lauded the hackathon as a celebration of innovation, highlighting India’s history of groundbreaking ideas and emphasizing the opportunity for participants to create solutions for real-world problems across various sectors.
Vice-Chancellor Prakash Tewari of KLETU underscored the importance of addressing global challenges, particularly with India’s growing population. The national-level inauguration, conducted virtually, featured Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who stressed the world’s reliance on young people for innovative solutions.
This year’s SIH boasts participation from 49,000 students nationwide, tackling over 250 problem statements submitted by 54 Ministries, departments, State governments, PSUs, and industries. The challenges are categorized under 17 major themes, including healthcare, sustainability, emerging technologies, and disaster management.
