**CHENNAI, December 11, 2024** – Devotees have donated a staggering ₹1,185 crore for temple renovations in Tamil Nadu over the past three years, according to Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekarbabu. This funding has supported 9,491 projects across various temples.
The Minister attributed the high donation figures to a policy encouraging donor participation, allowing them to choose their own contractors while the department ensures project quality. He highlighted several significant contributions, including a 12 kg silver kavacham donated for the Sri Periyandavar idol at the Karkuvel Ayyanar temple, 300 kg of silver for the temple cars of Sri Kalikambal and Nellaiappar temples, and a forthcoming ₹1 crore diamond crown donation for the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple.
Furthermore, the state government has provided ₹300 crore in subsidies for renovating over 1,000-year-old temples, supplemented by an additional ₹120 crore from private donors. Of the 287 temples undergoing renovation, 37 projects have been completed. These initiatives, undertaken under Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s direction, showcase significant public and private investment in preserving Tamil Nadu’s rich temple heritage.
