Wed Dec 11 15:32:32 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad Aims to Capitalize on Global Capability Centre Boom
**Hyderabad, India (December 11, 2024)** – Hyderabad is positioning itself as a major hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), leveraging its existing strengths and addressing future challenges. Speakers at the CII Telangana IT Conclave 2024 highlighted the city’s success in attracting GCCs, with approximately 200 of India’s 2,000+ GCCs already based there – almost 10% of the national total. This represents the largest number of new GCCs attracted by any Indian city in the last three years.
The availability of a skilled and disciplined workforce is a key attraction for global firms, a point emphasized by Special Chief Secretary-IT and Industries Jayesh Ranjan. However, challenges remain, particularly high attrition rates. To mitigate this, a consortium of Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) industry GCCs is launching a program in January 2025 to train 10,000 students annually across 20 engineering colleges, enhancing the skill sets of future employees.
The conclave also stressed the importance of expanding GCC presence beyond Hyderabad to tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Warangal, Adilabad, and Karimnagar for holistic state development. With an estimated 800 more GCCs planning to set up in India, Hyderabad is actively working to attract a significant portion of these new operations. Ramesh Kaza, senior MD, Country Head IT India, Strategy and Transformation – International CIO, State Street Bank & Trust, emphasized collaborative growth as key to success in this endeavor. The city’s competitive advantages include a strong talent pool, good infrastructure, and a low cost of living, according to Sanjeev Deshpande, Convenor of CII Telangana IT, DT and Startups Panel. The conclave also highlighted the role of start-ups in generating further employment opportunities.
