Mon Dec 09 21:27:49 UTC 2024: ## West Ham Eye Conceição as Lopetegui’s Future Hangs in the Balance

**London, England** – West Ham United are reportedly considering Sérgio Conceição as a potential replacement for manager Julen Lopetegui, whose position is increasingly precarious following a humiliating 5-2 home defeat against Arsenal.

Lopetegui, appointed last summer, initially bought himself time with a victory over Newcastle. However, the team’s subsequent collapse against Arsenal, conceding four goals in the first half, has reignited pressure. The club’s poor form, sitting just six points above the relegation zone, and concerns over the summer’s £100m+ transfer spending, have led to internal discussions about potential successors.

Conceição, the former Porto manager, is a leading candidate, having led Porto to three league titles and two Champions League quarter-final appearances. While West Ham haven’t yet contacted him, there is internal support for his appointment.

Other names on the club’s potential shortlist include Max Allegri (spotted recently in London), Graham Potter, and Christophe Galtier. The club has also reportedly conducted checks on several other managers, including Kasper Hjulmand, Roger Schmidt, and Sebastian Hoeness, but hasn’t yet shown serious interest in Edin Terzic.

While West Ham isn’t known for quick managerial sackings, Lopetegui’s future hinges on the upcoming matches against Leicester and Wolves. A loss against Leicester on Tuesday could be decisive. The Spaniard’s struggles to implement his tactical vision and concerns over the summer transfers have further fueled speculation.

Meanwhile, West Ham will be boosted by the return of midfielder Lucas Paquetá, whose appearance before the Brazilian parliament concerning a betting inquiry will now be via video link. Forward Mohammed Kudus will also be available after serving a five-match ban. Defender Jean-Clair Todibo, however, remains doubtful for the Leicester game.
