Mon Dec 09 11:09:10 UTC 2024: ## Israel Launches Fresh Airstrikes on Syria and Lebanon, South Korea’s President Faces Travel Ban

**BEIRUT/SEOUL** – Israel has carried out further airstrikes in Syria and Lebanon, escalating tensions in the region. In Syria, Israeli forces targeted military facilities and ammunition depots near Daraa, with reports of explosions. Israeli armored vehicles also crossed into the buffer zone separating the Golan Heights from Syria. These actions follow a pattern of increased Israeli attacks in recent months, sparking condemnation for violating Syrian sovereignty and international law.

Simultaneously, Israel launched multiple strikes in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties. One civilian was killed and four soldiers injured in a strike on a vehicle in Bint Jabal. Previous attacks resulted in the deaths of three civilians, including a woman, in Debbine. These actions violate a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah that came into effect on November 27th. Further, Israeli forces entered a minefield on Lebanon’s border with occupied Palestinian territories, causing additional casualties.

Meanwhile, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol faces a travel ban imposed by the Ministry of Justice, following a failed attempt to impose martial law and the opening of a criminal case against him. He narrowly survived an impeachment vote after his ruling party boycotted the parliamentary proceedings. The ruling party plans to reduce the president’s responsibilities, transferring more power to the Prime Minister. However, opposition parties accuse the government of a “second coup” and thousands continue to protest, demanding his resignation.
