Mon Dec 09 20:09:04 UTC 2024: ## BEST Bus Runs Amok in Kurla, Killing Four and Injuring 31

**Mumbai, India** – A BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) bus caused a devastating accident Monday night near Kurla railway station, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to 31 others. The incident occurred around 9:50 pm opposite Anjuman-e-Islam school on SG Barve Marg in Kurla West.

Preliminary investigations suggest brake failure caused the route 332 bus, traveling from Kurla to Andheri, to lose control. The bus veered off the road, onto the footpath, and plowed into vehicles and pedestrians in a crowded marketplace before coming to a stop inside the compound of Shiv Darshan Vihar Cooperative society. Emergency services retrieved the bus over an hour later.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Satyanarayan confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the driver, who is under arrest. Police have secured the area, and the situation is reported to be calm. While some injuries are serious, the full extent of the casualties is still being assessed.

This tragic accident overshadows other news, including the ongoing World Chess Championship. Despite losing Game 12 to Ding Liren, Indian player D Gukesh still has a chance to win the title if he wins the next two games. The match is currently tied 6-6, with both players having an equal chance of victory, according to mathematical models. A tie-breaker will determine the winner if the scores remain even.
