Mon Dec 09 05:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Telangana CM Unveils Telangana Mother Statue, Calls for Unity
**Hyderabad, December 9, 2024** – Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today unveiled a statue of “Telangana Mother” at the state secretariat, marking December 9th, the anniversary of the state’s formation in 2009. The CM’s announcement came during the opening day of the state assembly’s winter session.
Reddy described the statue as a representation of Telangana’s culture and the embodiment of the collective spirit of its four crore people. He emphasized that the statue, while inspired by the image of a mother, is distinct from the representation of a deity, addressing criticism from opposition parties. He specifically noted that unlike deities, the Telangana Mother would not wear a crown.
Reddy issued an open invitation to opposition leaders, including BRS chief KCR, Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and Communist Party leaders, to attend the unveiling ceremony. He requested a temporary cessation of political discourse to celebrate this significant cultural moment.
The CM proposed a formal assembly discussion on the Telangana Mother, highlighting the lack of official recognition for existing representations of the state’s cultural identity. He stated that the new statue was designed to reflect Telangana’s traditions and history, and announced that annual celebrations commemorating its unveiling would be held every December 9th. The CM’s initiative aims to foster a sense of unity and shared identity within the state. The event comes amidst heightened political tension, following reports of arrests of BRS MLAs near the assembly building.
