**Bengaluru, December 9, 2024** – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced plans to construct a ₹1,200 crore flyover on the BWSSB Cauvery Pipeline Road to alleviate chronic traffic congestion on Kanakapura Road. The project, part of a larger initiative to build 17 flyovers across the city, is championed by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
The flyover, estimated to cost ₹100 crore per kilometer, will run parallel to Kanakapura Road, bypassing the existing metro corridor which has complicated the construction of a flyover directly on the arterial road. The chosen location will minimize land acquisition issues, as the land mostly belongs to government agencies.
While some question the efficacy of flyovers in general, residents and advocates like Abdul Aleem of Changemakers of Kanakapura Road believe this specific project, with multiple entry and exit points, could significantly improve travel times in the rapidly developing area. A detailed project report (DPR) will soon be commissioned by the BBMP.
