**St. Kitts:** The West Indies pulled off a thrilling five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first One Day International (ODI) of their three-match series at Warner Park, St. Kitts. Bangladesh, batting first, posted a challenging 294/6 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to strong contributions from Mehdi Hasan (74 runs off 101 balls) and Tanzid Hasan (60 runs off 60 balls). Romario Shepherd (3 wickets for 51 runs) and Alzarri Joseph (2 wickets for 67 runs) were the pick of the West Indies bowlers.

However, the West Indies chase was even more dramatic. Shafien Rutherford’s magnificent century (113 runs off 80 balls, including 7 fours and 6 sixes) spearheaded the chase, while Shai Hope also contributed significantly with an 86-run knock. Despite losing wickets at crucial moments, including Rutherford’s dismissal in the final stages, the West Indies reached the target of 295 runs in 47.4 overs, securing a hard-fought win. Rishaad Hossain (1 wicket for 49 runs) and Taskin Ahmed were the most economical Bangladesh bowlers, while Tanzim Hasan Shakib picked up a wicket.

The match was a rollercoaster of exciting moments, with frequent sixes and boundaries from both sides. The West Indies required a high run rate in the latter stages of the innings but Rutherford’s explosive batting ensured they chased down the total with some balls to spare. This win gives the West Indies a 1-0 lead in the series.
