**Belagavi, Karnataka – December 7, 2024** – The upcoming winter session of the Karnataka State Assembly, commencing December 9th in Belagavi, will prioritize issues affecting the northern region of the state, according to Legislative Council chairman Basavaraj Horatti. Mr. Horatti, after inspecting the Suvarna Soudha (the session venue), stated that he has urged members to focus on development issues specific to northern Karnataka, including the Upper Krishna Project, Mahadayi water dispute, farmer problems, and sugarcane growers’ concerns.

The council has received 1,397 questions, 150 of which are starred questions. A special committee will be formed to address child rights, and efforts will be made to improve member attendance. The state government has allocated ₹20 crore for the session.

Proposals for a permanent legislators’ house in Belagavi are under consideration, with organizations like the Taj Group and KLE expressing interest. A final decision will be made after consultation with the Chief Minister and other key figures.

Meanwhile, MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has written to the Speaker, urging early discussion on northern Karnataka issues to ensure effective participation from members. Mr. Horatti’s announcement and Mr. Yatnal’s letter indicate a strong focus on addressing the concerns of northern Karnataka during the upcoming assembly session.
