Sat Dec 07 22:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Andhra Pradesh Launches Energy Efficiency Program to Tackle Power Sector Crisis

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched the Urjaveer program on Saturday, aiming to revitalize the state’s power sector, which he claims was crippled by the previous YSRCP government’s policies. The program, a collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), focuses on increasing energy efficiency rather than raising electricity tariffs.

Naidu stated that the previous government’s actions resulted in a ₹1,29,305 crore loss for the Energy Department and burdened consumers with an additional ₹33,000 crore due to nine tariff hikes. He emphasized the NDA government’s commitment to improving efficiency to avoid similar tariff increases.

Urjaveer will promote the sale of energy-efficient appliances through the eeslmart.in portal. The program also includes the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP), distributing induction stoves to 55,607 Anganwadi centers, and integrating energy-efficient solutions into homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Naidu highlighted the importance of renewable energy and energy conservation, emphasizing that saving one unit of electricity is equivalent to producing two. He called for increased adoption of renewable energy sources and electric mobility to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve air quality. Registered local electricians, or Urjaveers, will be incentivized to promote and install these appliances.

The Chief Minister also requested Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar’s support for the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The event was attended by several ministers, officials, and the CEO of EESL. The initiative signifies Andhra Pradesh’s renewed focus on power sector reform and sustainable energy practices.
