**Mumbai, December 7, 2024** – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has requested the Home portfolio, sparking ongoing negotiations within the ruling Mahayuti coalition, according to Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogavale. Gogavale, a close aide to Shinde, stated that the cabinet expansion is expected between December 11th and 16th, preceding the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur.
Shinde’s demand for the Home portfolio, previously held by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was reportedly made to either Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He expressed optimism that these discussions will conclude within the next two days.
The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, secured a commanding 230 seats in the recent elections.
