Fri Dec 06 23:30:51 UTC 2024: ## Cash Found Under Congress MP’s Seat Sparks Uproar in Rajya Sabha
**New Delhi, Dec 6, 2024** – A bundle of 500 Rupee notes discovered under the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha has ignited a major political controversy. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revealed the discovery, leading to heated exchanges in the upper house of Parliament.
The incident unfolded on December 5th, after the house was adjourned. The cash was found under seat number 222, assigned to Singhvi, who represents Telangana. While Dhankhar announced an investigation into the matter, Singhvi vehemently denied any knowledge of the cash, stating he only possessed a single 500 Rupee note. He claimed to have arrived in the house at 12:57 PM and left at 1:30 PM after spending time in the Parliament canteen with MP Ayodhya Rami Reddy.
The BJP seized on the incident, alleging it reflects poorly on the Congress party, particularly given the Congress’s ongoing demand for a debate on the Adani Group’s alleged financial irregularities. BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda described the incident as an attack on the dignity of Parliament. Union Minister Piyush Goyal even suggested a larger conspiracy might be at play.
Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge urged restraint, requesting that no names be mentioned until the investigation is complete. However, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju defended the mention of Singhvi’s name, arguing that it was only natural to mention the occupant of the seat where the cash was found.
The investigation is currently underway, and the outcome will likely shape the political narrative in the coming days.
