Fri Dec 06 23:30:52 UTC 2024: ## Cash Caper Causes Chaos in Rajya Sabha

**New Delhi** – A bundle of currency notes found near the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha has sparked a major political controversy. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the discovery Friday, revealing that security personnel found the wad of Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes during a routine post-adjournment security check on Thursday. The notes were discovered near seat number 222, assigned to Singhvi, who represents Telangana.

Dhankhar stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident, but his announcement immediately ignited a heated debate between ruling and opposition members. The BJP demanded a thorough investigation, accusing the Congress of impropriety.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Dhankhar for revealing Singhvi’s name before the investigation concluded, although he stated that the Congress had no objection to a full inquiry. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal defended Dhankhar’s actions, stating that the Chairman simply stated a fact: where the cash was found, and who occupied that seat.

Singhvi himself expressed surprise at the announcement, denying any knowledge of the cash and emphasizing the need for a transparent investigation into a potential security lapse. He stated that he only had a single 500 rupee note on him when he arrived at the Rajya Sabha.

The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols in the Rajya Sabha and fueled accusations of unethical behavior, leading to further political tension in the already charged atmosphere of India’s Parliament. The investigation’s findings are keenly awaited.
