Fri Dec 06 02:10:19 UTC 2024: **Maharashtra Gets New Government: Fadnavis Returns as Chief Minister, Shinde and Pawar as Deputies**

Mumbai, India – Devendra Fadnavis has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, marking his return to the top post after a five-year gap. He will be supported by two Deputy Chief Ministers, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, who were sworn in alongside him on Thursday. The ceremony, held at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, was attended by a host of dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other Chief Ministers, as well as prominent Bollywood celebrities.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, winning 235 seats. The BJP itself won 132 seats, while the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) won 57 and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) secured 41 seats. This contrasts sharply with the performance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which suffered a major setback.

The appointment of Shinde and Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers ends days of speculation following the election results and internal political maneuvering within the alliance. While Shinde initially sought the Chief Minister position, he ultimately backed the BJP’s choice of Fadnavis. The new government is expected to bring stability to the state after a period of political uncertainty.
