Thu Dec 05 18:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Fadnavis Returns as Maharashtra Chief Minister Leading BJP-Dominated Coalition
**Mumbai, December 6, 2024** – Devendra Fadnavis has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape. Ten years after the BJP emerged as the single largest party, overtaking its former ally the Shiv Sena, the party has solidified its dominance. This victory, achieved through what some critics call controversial tactics, has established the BJP as the primary political force in Maharashtra.
The new government is a coalition including Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, representing the BJP’s allies. While Shinde expressed initial displeasure, both he and Pawar have accepted the BJP’s leading role, suggesting a relatively stable government.
Fadnavis faces considerable challenges. Addressing agrarian distress and boosting industrial growth are top priorities. He must also work with the national BJP leadership to counter allegations of central government discrimination against Maharashtra in industrial promotion. The new government has pledged a farm loan waiver – a temporary measure to address the agricultural sector’s needs alongside longer-term investments and price management strategies.
Furthermore, the coalition government plans to increase cash handouts to eligible women under the Ladki Bahin Yojana from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100. This, along with other campaign promises, will require significant financial management. Attracting investment, expediting ongoing projects, and upgrading Maharashtra’s rapidly growing urban centers will also be crucial.
The BJP and Fadnavis now have the opportunity to lead Maharashtra into a new era of progress by effectively managing these complex challenges.
