**Coimbatore, December 6, 2024** – Construction of the ₹167.25 crore Semmozhi Poonga project in Coimbatore is progressing rapidly, with the first phase slated for completion within six months. The 45-acre park, located on the central prison grounds in Gandhipuram, will feature a botanical garden, solar panels, sculptures, and 22 themed gardens highlighting Tamil heritage.

A key component, the 1,000-capacity convention centre (₹25.56 crore), is 65% complete, while a treated water pipeline from the Ukkadam Sewage Treatment Plant (₹7.83 crore) is 60% finished. Work on a 380-car and 10-bus parking facility (₹7.02 crore) is at 30% completion. Other ongoing works include infrastructure development and the installation of audio-visual systems within the convention centre.

Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran stated that approximately 45% of the project is complete, with plantation work, involving around 2 lakh saplings, commencing soon. Many of these saplings will be species referenced in Sangam literature, sourced both domestically and internationally. A specialized consultancy firm is overseeing the planting process. The entire project is expected to be finished by June 2025. The park is expected to be a significant recreational space for the city.
