THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec 2, 2024 – Five northern Kerala districts remain on red alert for extremely heavy rainfall as the remnants of Cyclone Fengal approach. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports a well-marked low-pressure area, originating from Cyclone Fengal, is expected to move over the Arabian Sea off the north Kerala-Karnataka coasts by Tuesday.

Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are under the red alert, while Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, and Palakkad are on orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD forecasts continued heavy rainfall, issuing orange alerts for Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday and yellow alerts for Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram.
