The invitation to the swearing-in ceremony has drawn attention to a unique detail: Fadnavis’s full name, as listed, is “Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis.” This is the first time he has publicly used his mother’s name, Sarita, as his middle name, instead of his father’s, Gangadhar. While it’s customary in Maharashtra to use the father’s name, Fadnavis’s decision is seen as a significant gesture. His father, a Jan Sangh and BJP leader, passed away when Fadnavis was a teenager. His mother, Sarita Fadnavis, expressed her delight at her son’s appointment, noting his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
