**GUWAHATI, Assam –** The Assam state government has implemented a statewide ban on the serving and consumption of beef in restaurants, hotels, and public places, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Wednesday. The decision, made during a cabinet meeting, amends existing laws that previously restricted beef sales and consumption within a five-kilometer radius of temples. The CM stated that this action builds upon a three-year-old law banning cow slaughter in the state and aims to further protect the cow, a sacred animal for many Hindus.

In a separate incident, organizers of a global expo in Silchar removed two stalls selling Bangladeshi goods following pressure from members of the Bajrang Dal, a Hindu nationalist organization. The group cited alleged atrocities against Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh as the reason for their demand.
