**Kathmandu, Nepal –** Nepal and China solidified their bilateral ties on Tuesday with the signing of a nine-point agreement during Nepali Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s four-day official visit to Beijing. The agreement, reached during meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, covers a broad range of areas including infrastructure development, trade, tourism, and technological cooperation.
Specific agreements included the construction of a tunnel road near Kathmandu, the promotion of Nepal-China trade, and the renovation of a historic palace in Kathmandu. Further collaborations were established in areas such as meat exports, economic and technical assistance, Chinese language education, and communication technology. China also pledged grant assistance totaling $20 million and additional projects valued at approximately $4.13 million.
The visit marks Prime Minister Oli’s first official trip abroad since assuming office for a fourth term. While the agreements represent a significant strengthening of Nepal-China relations, some observers have noted the timing of the visit and its potential implications for Nepal’s relationship with India.
