Tue Dec 03 04:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Indian Navy’s Vikramaditya to Undergo Major Refurbishment at Cochin Shipyard
**NEW DELHI, Dec 1, 2024** – The Indian Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, will undergo a significant Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the Ministry of Defence announced today. The ₹1207.5 crore contract, signed on November 30th, will enhance the carrier’s combat capabilities.
The refit is a crucial step in maintaining the Navy’s operational readiness and strengthens CSL’s position as a leading Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub. The project is expected to generate employment for over 3500 personnel and involve nearly 50 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
This initiative aligns with the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) and “Make in India” initiatives, boosting domestic industrial capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign contractors. Upon completion of the refit, INS Vikramaditya will return to active service with upgraded combat capabilities.
