CHENNAI, November 30, 2024 – Patali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss has accused the Tamil Nadu government of corruption in its deal with the Adani Group for solar power. Ramadoss questioned why the state is paying ₹2.61 per unit of solar power, 30% higher than the market rate. He demanded answers from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regarding allegations of bribery involving TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) officials.

Ramadoss pointed to allegations in a US court that TANGEDCO officials accepted bribes from the Adani Group. He highlighted that in 2020, other companies agreed to supply solar power at ₹2.00-₹2.01 per unit, yet the price increased significantly in the 2021 Adani deal.

He further criticized the lack of transparency regarding TANGEDCO’s finances, questioning the absence of published profit-loss accounts despite a significant revenue increase following a tariff hike in 2022. He also raised concerns about an 800 MW power plant inaugurated by the Chief Minister earlier this year that remains non-functional. Ramadoss suggested that the government’s failure to develop its own power projects facilitates inflated prices and corruption.
