Tue Nov 26 12:41:21 UTC 2024: ## Heavy Rains Lash Tamil Nadu, IMD Predicts Intensification of Depression

**Chennai, October 24** – Heavy rainfall has impacted several parts of Tamil Nadu today, with Chennai and surrounding districts bearing the brunt. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning, predicting that a depression over the Bay of Bengal will intensify into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.

Areas affected include Chennai, Chengelpet, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, and the Cauvery delta regions. While rainfall has been generally mild to moderate, some areas experienced heavier downpours, leading to waterlogged roads and disruptions to traffic.

The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre located the depression approximately 830 km south-southeast of Chennai and 630 km south-southeast of Nagapattinam. The department forecasts a north-northwestward movement towards the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts over the next two days.

Separately, the Tamil Film Active Producers Council has voiced concerns over negative film reviews on YouTube channels, claiming manipulation and damage to the box office performance of films such as *Indian 2*, *Vettaiyan*, and *Kanguva*. They have called on theater owners to prevent these channels from filming audience reviews within cinemas.
