Tue Nov 26 11:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Seoul City on High Alert for First Snowfall
**SEOUL, South Korea (October 26, 2023)** – Seoul is bracing for its first snowfall of the season, with 3 to 8 centimeters of snow expected to fall between midnight on October 27th and the end of October 28th. In preparation, the city government announced it will begin emergency snow removal operations at 6 PM on October 26th, involving all local districts and relevant agencies.
The city plans to utilize CCTV cameras installed along the snow’s projected path from the west sea to preemptively identify the onset of snowfall and deploy preemptive measures. A total of 5,295 personnel and 1,207 pieces of snow removal equipment will be mobilized, with de-icing agents to be applied before the snow begins to fall.
Seoul officials emphasized a “full-scale response system” to counter any sudden snowfall. They stressed a swift initial response utilizing all available resources to minimize disruption to citizens. Residents are encouraged to utilize readily available de-icing agents and tools from designated boxes located in alleyways and on steep slopes to clear snow and ice from in front of their homes and businesses.
City officials warned of potential accidents due to icy roads, urging drivers to maintain a safe distance and pedestrians to exercise caution. Kim Seong-bo, director of Seoul City’s Disaster and Safety Management Office, advised citizens to avoid driving whenever possible and utilize public transportation instead, particularly as temperatures are expected to drop after the snowfall, increasing the risk of icy patches forming on roads.
