Sat Nov 23 09:37:25 UTC 2024: ## Congress Wins Channapatna By-election in Landslide Victory

**Bengaluru, November 23, 2024** – Congress candidate C.P. Yogeshwar secured a resounding victory in the Channapatna by-election, defeating NDA candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy by a margin of over 26,000 votes. The win marks a significant blow to the Janata Dal (Secular), who now hold no assembly seats in their Ramanagar district stronghold.

The election, considered a high-stakes battle between the three major parties, saw intense campaigning and high voter turnout. While early counts favored Kumaraswamy, Yogeshwar surged ahead as results from Channapatna town came in, steadily increasing his lead. Both candidates, actor-turned-politicians, have faced electoral setbacks in the past.

Yogeshwar attributed his victory to the voters’ focus on development, blaming the BJP and H.D. Kumaraswamy for past political setbacks. He even suggested that JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, whose campaigning for his grandson was described as “selfish,” should retire from politics.

The result, which defied predictions of a close contest, was met with jubilant celebrations by Congress supporters and disappointment among JD(S) workers. The Congress’s sweeping victory in all three Karnataka by-elections signals a strong showing for the ruling party.
