**Moscow, November 18, 2024** – Russia’s Defence Ministry reported the interception of a record 59 Ukrainian drones overnight, the majority shot down over border regions. The ministry stated that the attacks, described as “terrorist UAV attacks,” were thwarted by air defense systems. The majority of the drones (45) were downed in Bryansk Oblast, with six in Kursk Oblast and three in Belgorod Oblast. Three additional drones were intercepted in Tula Oblast, and two more in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the destruction of one drone over Ramenskoye district and another in Pavlovo-Possad district, reporting no casualties or damage in either incident. While Russia frequently announces the interception of Ukrainian drones, Monday’s reported number represents a significant increase compared to previous incidents. Kyiv has previously acknowledged carrying out such drone attacks, often targeting energy infrastructure, in response to Russian shelling of Ukrainian territory.
