**Rio de Janeiro, Brazil –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, November 18, 2024, to participate in the G20 Summit. This marks the second leg of his three-nation tour, following a visit to Nigeria where he held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and engaged with the Indian diaspora.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced Modi’s arrival on X (formerly Twitter), sharing images of his welcoming ceremony. Modi himself tweeted his anticipation for the summit and productive discussions with global leaders. The summit, taking place November 18-19, will also see the attendance of key figures like Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.

India, as part of the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa, plays a significant role in the summit. Modi referenced India’s G20 presidency last year, highlighting the induction of the African Union as a permanent member and the successful negotiation of a leader’s declaration despite divisions over the Ukraine conflict as major achievements.

Following the G20 Summit, Modi will embark on the final leg of his trip, visiting Guyana from November 19-21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in over 50 years.
