**Thiruvananthapuram:** Senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan has welcomed Sandeep Warrier’s recent decision to join the Indian National Congress. However, he issued a strong caution, emphasizing the need for Warrier’s continued loyalty to the party’s ideology.
Muraleedharan pointed out that Warrier’s earlier, vocal criticism of Rahul Gandhi had prevented him from actively campaigning for Priyanka Gandhi in the recent Wayanad election. Had Warrier joined earlier, he could have significantly contributed to the campaign.
Muraleedharan stressed that this “membership of affection” must endure. He warned against any future defections, particularly after the next assembly elections. He specifically addressed Warrier’s past statements, some made in apparent support of the BJP, suggesting that such actions should be a thing of the past. Muraleedharan acknowledged that many Congress leaders have previously switched to the BJP but underscored the importance of Warrier’s sustained commitment to the Congress party.
