**New Delhi, November 16, 2024** – Delhi is grappling with its third consecutive day of “severe” air quality, forcing the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III restrictions. The air quality index (AQI) reached 407 at 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Sameer app.
These stringent measures, enacted on Friday, include a ban on private BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles, a ₹20,000 fine for violations, and a prohibition on the entry of interstate non-electric CNG buses. Construction activities are also restricted, and government office timings have been staggered. The restrictions are a direct response to the severe air pollution gripping the city.
The India Meteorological Department reported a minimum temperature of 15.3 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average. While the weather forecast predicts mainly clear skies, morning and evening smog or shallow fog is expected. The maximum temperature is predicted to be around 33 degrees Celsius.
The restrictions are part of the CAQM’s GRAP, aimed at mitigating Delhi’s recurring air pollution crisis. The situation continues to be closely monitored.
