Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India, is all set to witness a spectacular celebration of Dev Deepawali on Kartik Purnima. The city will be adorned with an estimated 21 lakh diyas, making it a truly breathtaking spectacle. The event, which has gained immense popularity over the past four decades, attracts millions of tourists and devotees from across the globe.
This year, the celebrations will be even more special as the newly constructed Namo Ghat will be inaugurated by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The ghat, funded by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, is a new addition to the 84 ghats of Varanasi.
“Dev Deepawali has become a world-renowned festival,” said Kaushalraj Sharma, Divisional Commissioner of Varanasi. “It has grown significantly in the past four years, especially after Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2020.”
The event will also witness cultural performances, a laser show, and a 18-19 minute projection show at Chet Singh Ghat, showcasing the rich history and mythology of Kashi and the Ganga. The main fireworks display will take place in front of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
The festivities will begin with the inauguration of Namo Ghat at 3:30 PM, followed by the lighting of diyas at all the ghats, including a special ceremony at the newly constructed Namo Ghat. The entire celebration will conclude with the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat around 8 PM.
The theme of Dev Deepawali this year is “Swachchh Ghat-Swachchh Kashi”, focusing on cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The Central Dev Deepawali and Aarti Committee has also emphasized the theme of inclusivity with “Jaati Pant Anek, Hum Sanatani Ek” (Many faiths, one spirit), dedicating diyas to various religions and faiths.
The event is a testament to the cultural heritage of Varanasi and its ability to captivate the hearts of millions with its magnificent display of light and devotion. With elaborate preparations and a plethora of activities, Dev Deepawali 2024 promises to be a truly unforgettable experience.
