Fri Nov 15 06:16:42 UTC 2024: ## Indian Stock Markets Closed Today for Guru Nanak Jayanti, Offering Relief After Recent Downturn

**MUMBAI, INDIA -** The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed today in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, providing a much-needed respite for the markets after a challenging week. The closure impacts trading in the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment, Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) Segment, and Currency Derivatives.

While equity trading is halted for the day, the Commodity Derivatives Segment and the Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment will resume trading in the evening session. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity Exchange (NCDEX) will reopen for trading from 5:00 PM onwards.

This holiday marks one of several stock market closures scheduled for November 2024. Indian markets will see another two closures this month, according to the official holiday list.

The closure comes amidst a period of significant pressure on Indian markets. Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty have experienced a six-session losing streak, driven by selling pressure from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and concerns over rising retail inflation. This negative sentiment has impacted various sectors, particularly fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), which have suffered substantial losses in recent trading sessions.

Inflation worries have weighed heavily on FMCG stocks, contributing to the sector’s downturn. Today’s market closure offers a chance for investors to reassess the situation and potentially regain some momentum.
