Thu Nov 14 09:10:53 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Choked by Severe Pollution, Dense Fog Triggers Orange Alert
**New Delhi:** The air quality in Delhi has reached alarming levels, with the city experiencing a severe pollution crisis. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the air quality index (AQI) crossed 500 in 31 areas, indicating a severe health risk. The highest AQI of 567 was recorded in Jahangirpuri, followed by Anand Vihar and Punjabi Bagh with an AQI of 465.
The city’s air quality has been steadily deteriorating, reaching “very severe” levels for the first time this season on Wednesday, November 13, with an AQI of 418.
The severe pollution has been accompanied by a dense fog, prompting the weather department to issue an orange alert. The reduced visibility due to the fog is expected to significantly disrupt traffic flow and cause travel disruptions.
Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution while driving and to wear masks while venturing outdoors. On Wednesday, 10 flights were diverted from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport due to the dense fog.
This alarming situation highlights the urgent need for effective measures to address Delhi’s persistent pollution problem.
