Wed Nov 13 02:17:06 UTC 2024: ## Trump Appoints Musk and Ramaswamy to Lead New “Department of Government Efficiency”
**WASHINGTON** – President-elect Donald Trump has appointed tech mogul Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a newly created Department of Government Efficiency. The department’s mission is to streamline bureaucracy, reduce regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies.
In a statement, Trump called the initiative “potentially ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” drawing parallels to the US effort to develop the atomic bomb during World War II.
Musk, known for his leadership of Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), will be joined by Ramaswamy, the founder of a pharmaceutical company who challenged Trump for the Republican presidential nomination but later endorsed him. Both men have been vocal supporters of Trump and his policies.
The department, with its acronym DOGE, has sparked controversy as it coincides with the name of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin that Musk actively promotes.
Musk has pledged to shake up the system and eliminate government waste, stating, “This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in government waste, which is a lot of people!”
The duo’s efforts are expected to conclude by July 4, 2026, aiming to present a smaller, more efficient government as a gift to the country on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
