The highly anticipated sequel of ‘Pushpa’, starring South superstar Allu Arjun, is set to release soon. Fans are excited about the film and especially about Arjun’s powerful and captivating look.
While many are curious about the inspiration behind the look, it is believed to be inspired by the ancient religious festival, “Gangamma Jatara”. This festival is celebrated in honor of women and has a rich history connected to a powerful goddess.
According to folklore and myths, Sri Tatayaguunta Gangamma is considered the village deity of Tirupati. She is also said to be the sister of Lord Venkateshwara Swamy. The festival commemorates the story of Gangamma defeating Palegondulu, a king known for his cruel behavior towards women.
Legend has it that centuries ago, during Palegondulu’s reign, women suffered under his tyranny. Fearing for his life, Palegondulu fled and hid. To bring him out, Gangamma planned the “Ganga Jatara”, a week-long festival where people dressed in unique attire and challenged Palegondulu. On the seventh day, when Palegondulu finally emerged, Gangamma vanquished him.
In memory of this event and to honor Goddess Gangamma, the festival is celebrated every year. A significant aspect of the festival is men dressing up as women, adorning themselves like them, as a tribute to the goddess and womanhood.
Albeit there are specific rules and rituals associated with the festival, Allu Arjun’s look from ‘Pushpa 2’ seemingly draws inspiration from the attire and symbolism of the “Gangamma Jatara”. This fascinating connection adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming film, further piquing the interest of fans.
