Tue Nov 12 00:11:17 UTC 2024: ## Fake Video Claims Trump Promised to Free Imran Khan

**Islamabad, Pakistan** – A video circulating on social media falsely claims that former US President Donald Trump promised Pakistani-Americans he would free imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan if elected. The video, which has been viewed millions of times on TikTok and YouTube, has been dubbed over with Trump’s voice saying he will “try his best to get Imran Khan out of jail.”

Fact-checking investigations by iVerify Pakistan revealed the video is actually from a 2017 interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, where Trump was discussing the firing of FBI Director James Comey. The lip movements in the video do not match the dubbed audio, confirming the clip has been manipulated.

This is not the first time this dubbed video has gone viral. It was previously fact-checked in March 2024 by Indian fact-checking outlet Newschecker.

While there is a strong narrative among Khan’s supporters that Trump’s return to power could benefit the imprisoned former Prime Minister, this video is a fabricated attempt to fuel those hopes. The video serves as a reminder to be wary of social media content, especially during political seasons, and to verify information from reliable sources before sharing.
