Sun Nov 10 22:26:18 UTC 2024: ## India’s Participation in Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan Casts Shadow over Event
**Karachi, Pakistan:** The upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan, has hit a major snag with India’s potential refusal to travel to the neighboring country. Political tensions have led to a decade-long absence of bilateral series between the two cricketing giants, and despite India’s participation in the ODI World Cup in Pakistan in 2023, reports suggest they are reluctant to travel for the Champions Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed a “hybrid” model, with India playing their matches in Dubai, a solution that has been met with strong disapproval from Pakistan. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has urged Pakistan to take a firm stance, stating that the International Cricket Council (ICC) would lose significance if India’s participation is jeopardized.
“The ICC exists because of Pakistan and India. If Pakistan also refuses to play, the ICC would be meaningless,” Latif asserted, adding that India cannot back out of ICC events they’ve already signed up for. He went on to say that Pakistan should consider a strong response if India fails to commit to the tournament.
Sources indicate that Pakistan may even consider taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if India persists in their refusal to travel.
The situation presents a complex dilemma for the ICC, as the Champions Trophy is a major event with significant commercial implications. The BCCI’s proposed solution raises questions about fairness and the integrity of the competition. The outcome of this standoff will have far-reaching consequences for the future of Indo-Pak cricketing ties and the global landscape of the sport.
