Sun Nov 10 10:07:43 UTC 2024: ## Railway Worker Crushed to Death at Bihar Junction Due to Miscommunication During Shunting Operation

**Barauni, Bihar:** A tragic incident at Barauni Junction station on November 9th has resulted in the death of a railway worker, Amar Kumar, after he was crushed between a train engine and power car during a shunting operation. A preliminary inquiry by the Indian Railways has blamed poor coordination between two pointsmen for the fatal accident.

The investigation, which included the review of CCTV footage and witness statements, found that pointsman Mohammed Suleman had incorrectly signaled the loco pilot, leading to the engine moving unexpectedly and trapping Mr. Kumar.

Following the arrival of the 15204 Lucknow-Barauni train at 8:10 am, Mr. Suleman and Mr. Kumar were tasked with detaching the engine from the train. During this process, Mr. Kumar was caught between the engine and power car after Mr. Suleman gave the incorrect signal. Despite onlookers raising an alarm, the train driver reportedly fled the scene without reversing the engine or taking any action to prevent the accident. It took nearly two hours to detach the engine and power car and remove Mr. Kumar’s body.

Mr. Kumar’s family has demanded legal action against Mr. Suleman, who has defended himself in a written statement, alleging that the loco driver was responsible for the accident. He claims that he and Mr. Kumar had disconnected the engine and power car by detaching the buffer coupler, but the engine moved slightly away from the power car. When Mr. Kumar went to close the buffer coupler, the driver reversed the engine without any signal from him.

Further investigation into the incident is underway by senior railway officials.
