Sun Nov 10 07:01:25 UTC 2024: ## Brampton Man Arrested for Assault During Khalistani Protest at Hindu Temple

**Brampton, Canada** – A 35-year-old Brampton resident, identified as Inderjeet Gosal, has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon following a violent demonstration at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton on November 3rd. Gosal is reportedly the coordinator for Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in Canada, a group banned in India.

The incident occurred during a protest where demonstrators, some holding banners supporting Khalistan, clashed with temple attendees. Unverified videos circulating online show physical altercations, including individuals using poles and flags as weapons. Police responded to the scene as tensions escalated, and subsequent investigations have led to Gosal’s arrest.

The demonstration disrupted a consular event co-organized by the temple authorities and the Indian Consulate, further escalating tensions between India and Canada. The incident drew condemnation from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who stated that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely.

India also condemned the attack, demanding prosecution of those involved in the violence. The Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada.

The incident comes amidst strained relations between India and Canada, stemming from Prime Minister Trudeau’s allegations in September 2023 regarding potential Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has rejected these allegations as absurd and maintains that Canada’s tolerance of pro-Khalistan elements operating from its territory is the core issue.

A dedicated Strategic Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incidents of November 3rd and 4th. Gosal has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
