Sun Nov 10 03:53:31 UTC 2024: ## Yogi Adityanath Slams AMU for Lack of Reservation, Calls for SC/ST/OBC Inclusion

**Aligarh:** Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for allegedly denying reservation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) while simultaneously offering 50% reservation to Muslims. Addressing a public meeting in Aligarh ahead of the Khair assembly by-election, Adityanath questioned how an institution funded by taxpayers’ money could discriminate against SC/ST/OBC communities.

He accused the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party of neglecting the rights of these communities for their vote bank, thereby hindering their inclusion in AMU. Adityanath highlighted the constitutional mandate for reservation and criticized AMU’s perceived preferential treatment towards Muslims.

This statement comes after the Supreme Court upheld AMU’s minority status, a decision which Adityanath believes necessitates a more inclusive approach to reservations. He also criticized previous governments for failing to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to do so has brought progress to the region.

The Chief Minister also warned against those seeking to exploit religious divisions, emphasizing the need for unity and vigilance against such forces. He highlighted the positive changes brought about in Uttar Pradesh under his leadership, particularly in curbing riots and ensuring law and order.

Adityanath’s remarks are likely to spark controversy and debate, particularly regarding the role of minority institutions and their adherence to reservation policies. The upcoming by-election in Khair is expected to be a crucial test for the BJP, with Adityanath’s aggressive campaigning underscoring the party’s focus on consolidating its position in the state.
