Fri Nov 08 18:52:14 UTC 2024: ## Iran Allegedly Plotted to Assassinate Trump: US Charges Iranian Man

**Washington D.C.** – The United States Department of Justice has charged an Iranian man, Farhad Shakeri, in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate former President-elect Donald Trump. The plot was allegedly ordered by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

According to the Justice Department, Shakeri, a 51-year-old IRGC asset residing in Tehran, was tasked on October 7, 2024, with providing a plan to kill Trump. While Shakeri informed law enforcement about the assignment, he allegedly stated he had no intention of carrying out the assassination within the IRGC’s deadline.

Shakeri, who immigrated to the US as a child and was deported in 2008 following a robbery conviction, is currently at large and believed to be in Iran.

In addition to Shakeri, two New York residents, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathan Loadholt, have been charged with aiding Shakeri in plotting to kill a US citizen of Iranian origin living in New York. The target, described as an outspoken critic of the Iranian government, had previously been targeted for murder.

Prosecutors did not identify the target, but the description matches that of Masih Alinejad, a journalist and activist who has publicly criticized Iran’s head-covering laws. Alinejad has previously been the target of other Iranian plots. In 2021, four Iranians were charged with plotting to kidnap her, and in 2022 a man was arrested with a rifle outside her home.

Rivera and Loadholt have been ordered detained pending trial. Their lawyers have not yet commented on the charges.
