**Mangaluru, November 8, 2024:** Skill development, research, and innovation are crucial to advancing offshore geotechnics, according to T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). He emphasized this point while inaugurating the third Indian Symposium on Offshore Geotechnics (ISOG 2024) at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NIT-K) in Surathkal.
Sitharam highlighted the growing importance of offshore geotechnics in the development of sustainable and resilient marine infrastructure. This includes renewable energy projects, coastal protection measures, subsea mining, and climate change adaptation initiatives.
The two-day symposium, organized in collaboration with the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), has attracted over 200 delegates from academia, industry, and research institutions worldwide.
Anil Joseph, IGS president, stressed the need for robust port infrastructure and the vast potential of offshore wind turbine projects in India’s coastal zones. Arun Prabha, General Manager (Technical) of Mangaluru Smart City Ltd, spoke about the city’s evolving infrastructure projects.
The event, hosted by NIT-K, underscores the crucial role of offshore geotechnics in ensuring sustainable development of India’s maritime resources.
