**Nellore, Andhra Pradesh (November 6, 2024):** A group of activists, the Ponaka Kanakamma Ashaya Sadhana Samiti, has called on the Union government to establish a women’s university in Nellore, named after renowned freedom fighter Ponaka Kanakamma. The Samiti, at a press conference on Tuesday, revealed that Kanakamma’s assets are estimated to be worth over ₹2,500 crore, making her wish to provide free education for girls from primary to postgraduate level feasible.

“It was her desire to set up a university affiliated with the Central government,” said B. Surendranath Reddy, Convener of the Samiti. He added that he had already appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this proposal.

Reddy also mentioned that, along with Kanakamma’s assets, numerous individuals are willing to contribute to the establishment of the university. The Samiti organizes an annual felicitation program, awarding cash prizes and recognition to experts in various fields, and this year’s event is scheduled for December 15th.

Telugu language movement leaders Chellamcharla Bhaskar Reddy, Shaik Samdhani Bhasha, and Jaya Prakash attended the event.
