The heavy rains, which fell on Tuesday and Wednesday, caused rivers to overflow, inundating streets and homes and sweeping away cars and debris. The disaster is the worst flood-related tragedy in Europe in five decades.
Despite ongoing rainfall, major flooding has subsided. However, heavy rain and hailstorm have struck Barcelona, prompting a weather warning from authorities.
Defense Minister Margarita Robles has accused extremist groups of exploiting the tragedy for political gain, as some protesters were seen wearing symbols associated with far-right organizations.
