Tue Nov 05 14:29:57 UTC 2024: ## Elephant Herd Migrates Through Hosur, Forest Department Issues Alert

**Hosur, Tamil Nadu – November 5, 2024:** A large migratory herd of 85 elephants has been spotted moving through the Hosur Forest Division in Tamil Nadu, prompting the Forest Department to issue an alert to residents.

The herd, which originated from the Banerghatta Wild Life Sanctuary in Karnataka, is currently traversing through the Cauvery North Wild Life Sanctuary, a contiguous stretch of protected land that links national parks across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

Small groups of elephants have been observed in the Thally, Jawalagiri, and Denkanikottai forest ranges. Additionally, over 20 elephants have been sighted near the Noganur reserve forest, with reports of them raiding surrounding areas at night.

The Forest Department urges residents of villages bordering the forest to stay safe and avoid venturing out at night, particularly while guarding farmlands. They also request the public to immediately report any elephant sightings to forest officials and to refrain from disturbing the animals.

The elephants’ annual migration begins in October and is a natural occurrence. The Forest Department is closely monitoring the herd’s movement to ensure the safety of both the elephants and the local population.
