**Hyderabad:** Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering in Hyderabad on Saturday, highlighting the need for a caste census in Telangana. He emphasized that the census would ensure justice for marginalized communities who have faced systemic discrimination for generations.
“The caste system is deeply ingrained in India, and it remains invisible to the upper castes,” Gandhi asserted. “A caste census will provide long-overdue representation for those who have been disadvantaged for centuries.”
Gandhi stressed the importance of addressing the issue of caste discrimination in all spheres, including politics and the judiciary. He expressed concern that the system continues to stifle the potential of young people from lower castes.
“This caste system is unique to India and hinders our progress,” Gandhi declared. “We must eradicate it if we want to see our nation truly flourish.”
The gathering, held at the Gandhi Ideology Center in Boyinpally, brought together civil rights activists, intellectuals, and politicians, including Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka. Discussions focused on the methodology and benefits of a caste census. Gandhi actively participated in the discussions and took notes on suggestions made by professors and experts.
The event underscores the growing momentum behind the demand for a caste census across India. Gandhi’s vocal support for the initiative in Telangana is seen as a significant boost to the movement.
