**Srinagar, Nov 02:** Senior National Conference leader and MLA from Charar-e-Sharif, Abdul Rahim Rather, is tipped to be appointed as the new speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Sources close to the matter have indicated that the former Finance Minister and seven-time MLA will take on the prestigious role.
Rather, known for his extensive political experience, previously served as the opposition leader during the PDP-Congress coalition government between January 2015 and June 2018. His appointment comes following the National Conference’s victory in the recent elections, securing 42 seats in the first election held in Jammu & Kashmir in a decade.
Mubarak Gul, another NC leader who served as speaker during the NC-PDP coalition government, had been sworn in as pro-tem speaker by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on October 19th.
