**Coimbatore, November 2, 2024:** The Naan Mudhalvan massive upskilling platform, launched two years ago, is proving its worth by equipping undergraduate students with in-demand skills, according to heads of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The skill-based training modules, implemented by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, have made students more employable, leading to immediate job placements even in ongoing projects, says M. Saravanakumar, Associate Professor and Dean In-Charge, Anna University, Regional Campus, Coimbatore.
He cited the example of students learning battery maintenance skills, enabling them to secure jobs in electric vehicle manufacturing companies. Various programs across core engineering and software domains facilitate early transitions into the workforce. The integration of the training program into the regular academic schedule has been beneficial for students.
The Naan Mudhalvan initiative is also making a positive impact on Arts and Science colleges. Faculty members have recognized the importance of mandatory English communication training in today’s world. Recently, final-year Botany students of Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, who were trained in Food Safety, participated in a hackathon conducted by Bharathiar University, winning second and third prizes. The students emphasized the valuable skills they acquired through the Naan Mudhalvan program.
Colleges are actively engaging with the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation through faculty development programs. The government’s latest policy note on Higher Education indicates that 1,500 engineering faculty members have been trained in 24 skill-related courses under this scheme. The Naan Mudhalvan program continues to empower students with relevant skills, bolstering their employability and future prospects.
