Fri Nov 01 20:23:06 UTC 2024: ## Hamilton to Drive Senna’s Championship-Winning McLaren in Brazil
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will drive Ayrton Senna’s iconic 1990 McLaren MP4/5b during a demonstration run at the Brazilian Grand Prix this Saturday. The tribute to the legendary Brazilian driver will take place at Interlagos, the scene of many of Senna’s triumphs.
Hamilton, who previously drove Senna’s 1988 MP4/4 at Silverstone, has long idolized the three-time world champion, who tragically passed away in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. “I never in a million years thought I’d ever get to drive Senna’s car here,” Hamilton expressed, highlighting the emotional significance of the event. “It will definitely be quite an emotional experience.”
Hamilton plans to wear a replica of Senna’s helmet for the run, aiming for a surprise effect. He described the experience as “vibing off the culture” of Brazil, a place he considers a second home. “It’s the colours, it’s Ayrton, it’s the culture of the people,” he shared.
The demonstration is expected to draw a large crowd, eager to witness the modern-day champion pay homage to one of F1’s greatest icons.
